So Danika is now three weeks old! We are very tired. The first week home was stressful because Dani wasnt eating and losing lots of weight, the lightest she got was 6lbs 3 oz. which had the doctors worried. So Dani and Becky spent 4 days in the hospital trying to get her to eat and gain weight. She had to have a feeding tube put in but luckily it was only for the first day, its no fun to see her with a tube into her nose. So Dani is only on the bottle now, she never did get the hang of breast feeding, but she is doing better. Her weight i s over 7lbs. now so we are very relived with that. She has more and more energy and spends a little more time awake everyday. Carley (who just had her 2nd birthday on the 26th) is a wonderful big sister and a big help to Becky. This is Danika with her eyes open, its a pretty rare event so far so we thought we would record it and broadcast it on our blog.

Long Overdue...

January 8th, 2007, Becky spent the day shopping in Lethbridge with her Mom and sister trying to get labor started. She had a doctors appointment earlier in the day and found out that she was beginning to dialate, so this really motivated her. She called me at work at about 4:00pm telling me that she was having strong patterned contractions and that they had been going for a couple hours already. It was hard to try and keep ourselves from getting excited since we had already had a couple of false labor let downs. So we calmly went to the hospital around 7pm that evening "just to get things checked out" not really expecting much (but inside both of us were very excited and nervous). Beckys doctor was on call that night and decided that everything was ready to go and broke Beckys water at about 7:30pm . The doctor went home to eat some dinner and was going to deliver the baby when he got back. Becky did really well through the early stages of labor and through the hard labor as well. Carley had gotten up at 5:30am that morning so unfortunately Becky had been up for a very long time and was very tired. When everything was ready for Becky to start pushing, the nurses called the doctor to come in cause the baby would be coming soon. The nurses must not have known Beckys history in child birth because a little under ten minutes of pushing later out came Little Danika, sans the doctor. One of the lucky nurses got to do the delivery, the were both a little freaked out but they did very well. Dr. Davis got there just after I had cut the ambilical chord so he got to check everybody out to make sure they were healthy.
Danika was born at 10:04pm and weighed in at 6 lbs 12 oz and was 19 1/4 inches long, much, much smaller than Carley was. Both mom and baby have been doing very well, we left the hospital when Dani was only 18 hours old. We have had a little trouble getting Dani to wake up and eat so she has lost some weight but just now is starting to eat a lot better so we hope that she will be back up to her birthweight soon and keep going. I'll attach what I think are the best pictures we have so far and I will try and keep adding new ones as we get them.
